Well as always we're having a very busy time and I thought I'd take the opportunity in a brief moment of peace and quiet to check in.
A few weeks ago we had a pretty bad leak from our bathroom down to our kitchen which turned the house topsy-turvy with mess and dehumidifiers and left us miserable, tired and with a list of not cheap or minor things that need to be fixed in the house pretty soon.
So naturally we have taken the opportunity to add to that list, in fact we have made two. Problem Areas, and Things That Are Bumming Us Out About The House.
Problem Areas is a pretty long list which highlights every smallish area I could think of in the house that gathers clutter. I don't like clutter and we have been trying for months to reduce our possessions, but clutter still gathers. My thinking is that if we methodically attack every clutter gathering area and are totally ruthless with what we chuck or keep, then after a few weekends there should be no clutter and these spaces should be clean, and stay clean. These are aresa for example like the writing bureau, notorious dumping ground for anything paper based, and the top of mine and Will's chest of drawers in the bedroom, not even been sorted out properly since we moved here.
The list of Things That Are Bumming Us Out About The House are mostly DIY (though some DON'T do this yourself) jobs that either need to be done to maintain the house, or which will make it a nicer or easier place to live. The post-leak fallout jobs have been added to this list.
So in the spirit of Getting Things Done we spent the weekend Getting Things Done and have now tackled the following:
Problem Areas:
-Bureau. Full of rubbish, rubbish gone, letter writing stuff organised and put back in. Letters I need to reply to taken out and left somewhere I can see them.
- Porch. Full of rubbish. Whole wooden clothes rail for coats - why so many coats? Coats sorted and a few off to charity. Wardrobe taken upstairs to bedroom. Shelf put up for folded winter coats (three) and hats and gloves (need to get a box). Room for pushchair now, and to get in front door.
- Top of Jess Wardrobe. Sold wardrobe on Gumtree for £10. Clothes rail upstairs instead - no top to put things on.
Things That Are Bumming Us Out About The House:
- Put up shelf and take out wardrobe in porch
- Armchair in Lounge - oust! Sad to see it go but too big for this room. Sold on Gumtree for £10. Wicker chair from Ivy's room in it's place, though not sure about that. May get a different chair at a later date.
- Shelf Above mantle. Coffee table sold on Gumtee for £10. Too sharp, dangerous for Ivy, collects objects and takes up too much space. Shelf better.
I did shed a tear for these old friends, though I'm trying not to be sentimental.
That's all for now, Hwyl!
