Green socks and green grass

We have had quite an eventful weekend, as we have finally put turf (real turf, NOT, plastic turf, to clarify) in the garden. It is an area about the size of two mattresses and in a way seems hardly worth doing, but it has certainly made the view from the window less depressing and I know the girls will appreciate it. It cost £40 to turf this area, so more expensive than grass seed, but also a great deal more instant. Here is a picture from the day we moved in, and then today.

I have finally had a crack at knitting socks on straight needles after my friend gave me this book about 4 years ago. The pattern was super easy to follow and certainly much easier and quicker than knitting on double end needles, however I want to experiment with doing the seems in different ways as it was very visible.

I have just cast on another pair a needle size down as the first pair came up a little bit, however it turned out after checking the pattern again that I had been knitting the wrong size! Not sure how I mixed that one up.

I do have a friend in Swansea who knits on those teeny tiny round needles which I always thought looked too fiddly for words, but she has a spare pair she is going to lend me, so I shall give that a go too.

The weather is still bright and beautiful here, and we don't seem to have had that run of bad weather a lot of the country had had, so I am drying load after load on the line. Today is no different, so I'll be off. Happy Sunday!
